About this year’s conference:

The 2010 Southern Baptist Convention Pastors’ Conference will be held June 13-14, in Orlando, Florida, and I am proud to serve as this year’s Pastors’ Conference president. The conference is open to anyone wishing to attend. SBC President Johnny Hunt and I are anticipating upwards of 10,000 attendees at the two-day event, which immediately precedes the SBC annual meeting. I hope you’ll be there and eager to explore the “Greater Things” that are yet to be done.

Jimmy Scroggins, Vice President
Ben Mandrell, Treasurer

History of the Pastors’ Conference:

Around 1930, Tennessee-born pastor Monroe E. Dodd began to develop an idea he had for an annual pastors’ conference. In 1935, Dodd’s brainstorming expanded into the Southern Baptist Convention’s Pastors’ Conference. Dodd served as the event’s president from 1935-1949.

“I instituted the Pastors’ Conference in 1935” Dodd writes, “under a deep sense of need for it…A good, spiritual pastors’ conference could prepare a fine atmosphere for the Southern Baptist Convention. The growing attendance, sprit and expression of appreciation have justified it.”

The next president of the Pastors’ Conference was Herschel Hobbs, who presided over the event from 1949-1951. Hobbs believed the conference was “designed to be a preaching ministry in which the brethren could hear some of our preachers and receive inspiration there from.”

Nearly eighty years after its founding, the Pastors’ Conference continues to serve the Southern Baptist Convention as a source of encouragement and inspiration.
